Anju & Banju Korean Tapas Recipes and Story Book
Introducing Anju & Banju, the latest cookbook from Poets & Punks. Anju & Banju presents a fresh, modern take on the pairing of Seoul food and natural wine.
The cookbook features recipes by Jungwook Woo, owner-chef of contemporary Korean restaurant Superpan, shining light on Seoul’s cuisine in the form of home-style dishes.
More than 40 recipes span the spectrum of Korean cuisine, often mixing traditional elements with influences from abroad, and are accompanied by wine pairings from sommelier Sumin Kim (Wildduck & Canteen). Brought to life through the vivid illustrations of Gia Shim, the recipes draw on ingredients commonly available outside Korea, making it easy for readers to recreate the flavours and character of Seoul at home. Beyond simply providing a lesson in how to cook, the book presents an insider's view of Seoul’s culinary culture.
Woo’s stories blend personal anecdotes with cultural references, exploring the pleasures of eating namul, the art of braising and the ultimate all-round player: kimchi.
“Seoul is filled with varieties and changes,” writes Woo. “I brought dynamic Seoul to my plates.” Capturing this unique energy, diversity and openness to various cultures, Anju & Banju embodies the city and its food-loving residents. Anju is a Korean term for a wide range of dishes served with alcohol, while banju refers to the pairing of food and drinks.
